Front Side Panel Left

Sometimes I am wondering what people were thinking when they fixed this beetle. On the front side panel I discovered a strange repair panel which seems to have been welded over the rusted part of the bumper mount. This is what it looked like:

Front Side Panel Without the horn

So kan see that the panel isn't completely solid welded to the front panel, the gap indicates potential rust. And indeed there is:

Very much corrosion

After using the sand blaster the total damage is visible. Time to buy a repair panel or create one myself.

The challenge keeps getting bigger!! This weekend it's time to use the welder.

Hi,
Great site, I’ve just started restoring an early ’68 Beetle myself and have found some pretty dodgy body repairs too! I’ve just got into restoring as a hobby, and was wondering what is the best welder to use? I’ve been told a MIG but do you think thats sufficient?
many thanks
