Main problem areas
Let's focus on the main problem areas. The most worrying damage is left from the rear window. I suspect that the beetle hit something while driving backwards (or it has rolled over, but than I would expect more damage to the roof). The arrow points to trouble.
Also a really bad piece of rust can be found at the bottom left side of the rear window seal. This is quite a usual spot for rust.
You've already seen the left and right side of the wheelarch and the luggage shelf. But here are some more pictures.
Both heater channels are in poor condition. Both on the inside and the outside.
Another piece of classic rust, the spare wheel well. But easy to replace.
The floor pans can be fixed, but if you want to do it right both have to be replaced.
one comment:
I’m currently working on my ’74 Super, too. Had the same sort of damage as you near the rear left window, but just below your damage. Couldn’t figure out what sort of accident could cause a hole there. Almost like either a meteorite hit it (!) of some took a ball peen hammer to the back.
